Indian Recipe – Chocolate Barfi
Indian chocolate barfi made with mawa and chocolate has a different taste from chocolate barfi made with Indian milk. This barfi is liked by kids a lot and even you will enjoy eating it.
Chocolate Burfi is one of the easy and quick sweets that one could make in just 20 mins, specially on festivals like diwali. Koya or mawa are the milk solids got by condensing the milk till it thickens and reaches a solid consistency.
To make a homemade khoya or khoa lot of patience and time is needed which I do not have. So I generally prefer to buy from the Indian Groceries store. You can as much make a simple khoya burfi or make a choco burfi using unusal sweeteners like molasses too.
Chocolate burfi can be made with flour or milk powder or nut powder. But nothing can beat the one made with mawa / khoya since it has all the richness of milk and milk alone.
Ingredients for Chocolate Barfi
- Mawa – 400 grams (2 cup)
- Powdered sugar – 200 grams (1 cup)
- Cashew nuts – ½ cup
- Coco powder – ¼ cup
- Desi ghee – 2 tsp
How to make Chocolate Barfi
Grate or crumble the mawa finely and cut one cashew nut in 7-8 pieces.
Preheat a pan, add 1 tsp ghee. When ghee melts, add crumbled or grated mawa in pan and cook on medium flame until its color changes.
Add powdered sugar in pan and stir constantly to mix. Once sugar mixes nicely, add coco powder in the mixture and stir constantly. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
Add 2 tbsp cashews nuts in the mixture and mix nicely. Check the consistency of the mixture. It should have thick consistency. Mixture is now ready for freezing. If you feel that the mixture has not got the desired consistency cook it more until you get the correct consistency.
Grease plate or tray with ghee. Take out mixture in a plate and spread it evenly. Sprinkle rest of the cashew nuts on top of the mixture and press it with help of spoon so that they get set properly in the mixture.
When it gets freeze (it takes 2-4 hours for freezing the chocolate barfi) cut into any shape and size as per your preference. Very tasty and delicious barfi is ready. Store chocolate barfi in container and enjoy eating it for up to 10 days.
If chocolate barfi is not set or freezed, then place the tray or plate in refrigerator as it is for some more time. On second day the barfi will get set well. Still you feel that the barfi will not get freezed then take out the mixture in a pan and cook for more time. Check the consistency again and freeze it in similar manner.
